The View from Halfway Down is one of the most incredible half hours of television I've ever seen. It's easily the best episode of BoJack Horseman Season 6, and arguably of the entire series. In this video I breakdown all of the bits, pieces, callbacks and references that make it so incredible, while analyzing the overall message, and what it means for BoJack Horseman as a character AND as a TV series.

At 2:39 I say "Alkali is a chemical compound that's typically corrosive" which IS WRONG AND BAD SCIENCE and all of the science commenters are rightfully mad at me about it. Alkali is a class of chemicals, not a chemical compound itself. Thanks for calling me out, yall.

Mark Gonzalez Well, firstly, this is all in BoJack’s head, so it reflects his own opinions or fears. Secondly, there is no scientific evidence of a soul.

How come they made it seem like once you're through the door, there is no other side? Even scientists in this world know we have souls and that they go somewhere.

I’m sure people have noticed by now, but every character disappears very similar to how they died. Sarah Lynn jumper threw the door very quick, because she OD, and didn’t know or expect to die like that. Same with Corduroy. He was hanging fine, and one minor slip up caused him to die, similarly it was fast and sudden. As for Secretariat, he knew what to expect, and his fear of the door growing closer and closer, and the regret because he knows what happens when the door reaches him. Crackerjack was shot, and him jumping in could represent how fast his life was taken away, and Beatrice, unraveling could be for mental health and also over all how she unraveled completely until the very end of her life. And finally for Herb, he’d been battling cancer and he slowly withered away health declined, and then after he tells Bojack there isn’t another side, he completely dissolves. His peanut allergy being the last thing to push him to death

The only thing I don't like about the season six is that I Bojack shouldn't have signed that contract where "Horsesin Around" was changed to "Around." Bojack's life and reputation is ruined forever, but changing the show is flawed writing. Take Bill Cosby for example. We know that he is a rapest and a hypocrite, but we also know that he was capable of entertaining people and making them happy. I'm not saying that Bill Cosby should be a role model to kids or anyone, but I am saying we should remember what good he was capable of and what examples we definitely shouldn't follow. Bojack fits into this same category. He's a flawed Horse that hurt a lot of people, but he can entertain people too. It's better to know the flaws of people you once looked up to than grow up and make the same mistakes/wrong choices or forget about them all together. It would have worked well with the ending. Don't blindly follow your role models, don't take everything as a black and white, and it's ok to stop and look back so you can move forward without suffering the same painful steps you already made.

Hands down the Funeral episode was the best episode in this series and it will go down as one of the all time favorite episodes. It truly felt as if someone who never had a connection with his mother was giving a speech in her funeral. The ending where we find out it’s just reptiles tells us he was in the wrong room but I felt and interpreted it as what happens to everyone, all of us along w Bojack give speech about our loved ones in a room full of people who don’t know us or the person and the connection we had or connection never had. Bojack found out the person in the coffin was a stranger who never showed affection to him but had he been in the room he was supposed to be in, there wouldn’t have been a difference

Also Sarah Lin didn’t have real friends other than Bo Jack , but then again remember when she asked Bo Jack if she could hang out with him (tryna have a friend/friends) while she was possibly/likely going threw later on childhood trauma for example the step dad bear being a predator as for the mom not being a great mom at all , and also being turned down by the other celebrity girls from her just wanting to hangout and be friends, that’s sad af every time I see poor Sarah Lin makes me just choke on tryna not cry , she was always just tryna hang on, and drugs were the only thing really there for her , to keep her distracted from all the 😔. 😭

This episode is the final part of the series that is good tbh. Ending ruined it and could have been a good message about modern society and how it pushes people to these kinds of actions. Would have ended way better if he was actually dead.

One final thing to note it would have been a perfect representation of how bad the situation is right now with cancel culture's cons compared to the pros.
Kenny Gutierrez

@Johnny 2 Cellos Why? It could have just showed that social media is also toxic. I'm not denying Bojack wasn't toxic, he was. But just like you pointed out that was only because of how cyclic that was. Nobody denies that. Maybe the general public in the story wouldn't know any better and that is ok because it is the outcome. But they were part of the problem because they were looking for another opportunity to discredit someone who was really trying his best and actually showing progress to become a better person. I would have liked to see maybe some guilt felt out of that at the very least? I don't think you necessarily have to agree but I think it is short-sighted of you to not acknowledge that Bojack could have died in part mostly to his own issues, but also to how society was pushing him there when he genuinely was finally becoming better. Maybe I'm just too macabre but I would have been more satisfied with an ending like that than him juts living and continuing because it is cyclic. It also really downplays this episode because it should be about him dying and accepting it. On a final note, it is a youtube comment made in haste. If i had the interest, clout, and genuine time to make a rebuttal video I would, but I won't. I just want to re-iterate I think the ending ruins this episode's entire value.

I love this show, but tbh I'm really glad that it's over. Not because it's bad... it's actually for the opposite reason. As I devoured my way through all 6 seasons of this show, these characters felt so real and so unpredictable that I would actually worry about them falling back into their bad habits, their depression, their addictions, coping mechanisms- which I felt they eventually always might. Watching the last episode, I felt this enormous weight lifted off my shoulders, knowing that I didn't have to worry about Bojack, Dianne, Mr. Peanutbutter, PC, or Todd anymore. And you know what's funny? I would have actually been happy with Bojack dying, because it would have curtailed the uncertainty that follows him through his emotional rollercoaster story. That's my 2 cents. I'm not exactly trying to make a point, I simply wanted to express a sentiment that I thought would resonate with many of this show's viewers.

The way Bojack escaped the tar was similar to his life. In many episodes, they show him pushing everyone away until being alone. Also, he had ran away from his performance like in many other episodes including the one with "Ethanin' around". Much like all of the other performances, his way a representation of his life; he screwed up, everyone left him, he ran away from everything to be safed by a friend who was tired of doing so.

This show has made me tear up a little, in moments like the Season 1 finale, and when Mr Peanutbutter got his crossover episode, but this episode had me sobbing... At first, it was Sarah Lynne, but when he had the shenanigans with the bird and the people he missed that made me tear up too. But it was Herb. Whenever they had moment, a tear fell down my face. Their bit. But when Herb was being consumed by the tar, I began to sob. There is no other side... When he talked to Dianne over the phone I sobbed more. I definitely think this was the saddest episode in the entire show
