Swap it for a factory Celica GT 4 instead - stock turbo &AWD goodness, stunning looks, Toyota reliability and IMO it's a car thats only gonna go up in value, do despite the hefty price tag I doubt you'd lose any money on it.

Oil takes at least 10 - 15 min of driving to get upto temp!. 85 degrees. No need to idle that long after coming to a stop. Just drive low rpms for at least 2 miles before shutting of. Scotty c'mon lol

I know turbochargers are popular with auto manufacturers today because of fuel efficiency but I guess I'm old school when it comes to performance and prefer the supercharged engine. No matter how well designed those turbos are they still have some lag when you hit that accelerator most of the time, because they have to spool up. Good review as always.

Good info Scotty but I knew all this 30 years ago when I had my Mazda 323GT turbo. Never had a single problem with it. Drive a turbo car gently until it's warmed up then go full blast. Drive it gently again before shutting it off. This is good practice for all cars anyway.

Hi Scotty, I have a 2016 Lincoln MKC with the 2.0l EcoBoost engine. I bought it used with about 64,000 miles and at about 65,000 bank 1 sensor 1 o2 sensor went out. I bought Bosch replacement sensors and I replaced both the upstream and downstream sensors since you usually replace in pairs. Now to my issue, I was getting 18.6 or so mpg before the sensor went out and now I'm lucky if I get 15 to 15.5 mpg. Any suggestions on how to increase my mpg?

Hi if i were you, I would install the oem o2 sensors, on this case motorcraft and may have better results, Bosh are made for German cars, hope it helps.

Next video, why you shouldn’t buy a turbocharger car 😂
sigint99 Hace 20 días
This advice is really not correct anymore. Modern turbo-charged engines (except boxers) can be driven like a normally aspirated one with no need to warm up the engine or idle x amount of seconds before switching off the ignition. The biggest issue with a turbo charged engines longevity is not to rev the guts out of it and get it serviced exactly as specified in the vehicle logbook.

Scotty, is a turbo with ceramic bearings possible to circumvent the need for oil? Or rather so much oil? Maybe ceramic bearings would keep it safer for the short time it takes the oil to heat up? Also, great video. That heat built up in turbos will carbonize inside the turbo if you stop the oil flow. It'll literally turn to crusties in your turbo. Glad you included cool down times, a lot of people don't.

You must always floor a turbo charged engine every now and then (i do it every time i use the car at least once). Other wise the Turbo will get clogged up!

I have the 2.7l f150, I was testing oil changes various mileages, 4700 miles turned oil too dark. I now change around 3000-3700 miles. Yes it seems early, but after oil comparisons I find it better to switch before it gets too bad... I do find that changing the oil at less than 4000 I notice a change in performance after each oil change. Seems to be like premium gas effect...not all cars change performance based on fuel, but some have noticeable gains. F150 works as claimed using higher grade fuel when towing or at altitude.
raymae60 Hace un mes
Does any or all of this apply to my 2016 F150 3.5 EcoBoost? It has two tiny gadgets called turbos, which I believe are on-demand, electrically powered? I know that you know. I want it to make it to 200k without high repair bills.

Ha no way. By that time your engine is heat soaked and you'll be at about 75% power either way.

Thanks Scotty for posting this video. I have a Chevy 2012 Cruze with the turbocharged engine. It hesitates when I step on the gas. Sometimes, it does not accelerate at all which is real dangerous when I am merging with traffic. I brought it into the dealership. I told them about it but all they said was it needing a new turbocharger and intercooler because it came back with an under boost code. After they replaced it, it still has issues with hesitation, especially when it's hot outside, usually above 80 degrees. It can get to be over 90 or a 100 around here, so I dread merging onto the freeway. After watching this video, I plan on replacing the synthetic oil over 5000 miles and letting the engine warm up 10 seconds, I hope this will solve the issue with the hesitation. The dealer cant seem to solve it. Im no mechanic so I rely on car guys for advice and fixing my car. The car is great, when it doesn't hesitate or have rough idling that shakes the whole car. I'm considering buy a Corolla or Camry after watching your videos about how great Toyotas are.

Wow, 197k is impressive! One reason I chose not to buy a Subaru Legacy GT in 2007 was concern over turbocharger longevity. I went with a Legacy 2.5i Limited, which I still have today with 155k miles. The naturally aspirated boxer has done pretty well, though it ate its original head gaskets by 90k miles.
